Twinkle Star Dance Program (Ages 18 months-5 years old)
Classes Include: Pre-Dance (Ages 2.5-4 & 5-6 yrs olds) Tiny Buns, Tippy Toes, Tappy Feet, Ballet Swans, Intro to Dance, Pre-Dance, Intro to Team, Twinkle Stars, Twinkle Toes
Great first class for exploring the world of dance! Children are playfully engaged to move – cross-laterally and contra-laterally, for instance – and other ways shown by research to enhance brain development. Fun and positive instructors use music, stories and fun dance props to introduce ballet principles as new movement concepts are introduced each week. Social skills and self-esteem also are developed as children make new friends and enjoy each other throughpartner andgroup dancing. Yes, there’s a lot going on in these foundational classes!
Twinkle Stars Program is Built on 4 Pillars:
1). Creative Movement, 2). Skill Building, 3). Steps Across Floor, 4). SHOWTIME!
These classes contain ballet, tap, and jazz/creative movement. Dancers also learn basic terminology in these styles. For example, all dancers will learn a Plie' and how to demonstrate one. MDC is a certified study in "Twinkle Toes" and our teachers continue education to stay on top of the best teaching and learning methods.
Dress Code: Black Leotard with any color tutu, White Tights and Pink Leather Ballet Shoes without ties. No cloth slippers. Tap Combo classes will also need nude tap shoes. Mommy and Me classes can wear anything comfortable. No street shoes allowed in studio. Boys wear black shorts or pants, light colored t-shirt or white and black ballet shoes.
Ballet / Pointe:
A classical based technique class that provides fundamentals to all dance forms. Pointe is for dancers 12 and up that have had a year of ballet. Live music is available weekly.
Dress Code: Black Leotard, White Tights and Pink Ballet Shoes (any color tutu). Boys wear black pants, white shirts and black ballet shoes.
Tap / Contemporary Percussion:
This class is based on rhythms and sounds of tap technique. Contemporary Percussion is the use of the body to make percussion based on the Broadway hit “Stomp”.
Dress Code: Jazz Pants or Leotard, Tan Tights and Tan Slip-on Tap Shoes. Note: musical theater/tap requires Black Tap Shoes.
Welcome to musical theater and one of our most popular classes!! This class is a form of theatre that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The story and emotional content of the piece – humor, pathos, love, anger – are communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole. No dance experience required.
Dress Code: Jazz Pants or Comfortable clothing, and Black Slip-on Jazz Shoes
Based on ballet technique and legends like Bob Fosse, this fun and exciting dance form incorporates the whole body with dance combinations, turns, jumps, and leaps.
Dress Code: Jazz Pants, Shorts, or Leotard, and Tan Jazz Shoes
Hip Hop, Street Jazz & Breakdancing:
Hip Hop is a blend of today’s high energy “street style” movement typically performed to clean “popular rap music.” The style boasts everyone is capable of taking part and having fun!
Dress Code: Comfortable Pants and any color flat sole Hip-Hop Shoes like Converse.
STREET SHOES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN STUDIO AT ANY TIME.
Mommy & Me:
This class is the perfect way for a parent/caregiver and child to get acquainted with Dance! This 45-minute class runs in 4 week increments. Children are playfully engaged to move – cross-laterally and contra-laterally, for instance – and other ways shown by research to enhance brain development. Rhymes are used to stretch and move to the music, and engage through with many physical skills and props, including child-friendly musical instruments, scarves, a parachute, and much more! Recommended introductory class for children over 18 months and under age 3.
Modern / Lyrical:
Based on ballet & jazz technique that are choreographed to lyrical aspects of music. Dance based on the teaching techniques of Alvin Ailey, Martha Graham, and others. This class is an advanced class for high school dancers.
Dress Code: Shorts, Dance bra or leotard, Tan Footless Tights and Foot Undies or no shoes.
This class is designed for the dancer that wants to learn a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context.
Dress Code: Leotard, tights, and feet undies or barefoot.
This class is designed for ages six and up that want to learn to twirl like a star. This baton class is for the student who has never twirled before or has had some classes. We will cover correct body positions, basic twirls, marching fundamentals and learn a fun team routine incorporating dance.
Dress Code: Leotard, tights, tan jazz shoes.
Dance Therapy Classes:
Dance Therapy works to help improve body image, self-esteem, depression, social anxiety, family conflict, relationship building, and much more! Dance movement therapy is a versatile form of therapy founded on the idea that motion and emotion are interconnected. The creative expression of dance therapy can bolster communication skills and inspire dynamic relationships. Taught by Ms. Joette who is in a graduate program for dance therapy and has a masters in interpersonal communication. Dress Code: Any clothing that you can move in, No shoes, journal needed.
This class will cover fast traveling steps, isolations, combinations, figure 8’s, soft, flowing hands & arms and dance movement to a fantastic mix of exotic world rhythms. Improves flexibility, increase self-confidence, and brings out your inner dancer with this total body workout! This FUN and friendly class is great for ALL fitness levels, including Beginners!
Dress Code: Wear stretchy comfortable clothing such as leggings & a top. Shoes are optional or a jazz or dance shoe can be worn. No street shoes allowed in studios.
